ST. LOUIS (Sep. 26 2023)- Lindbergh boys JV soccer took on DeSmet and defeated them 2-1. Hassan Al-Maliki (11), scored both of the Flyers’ goals, giving them enough to beat the Spartans.
“Hassan had two great goals. He scored in clutch spots to give us the win against a good DeSmet team,” Senior Danny Minden said, talking about the leading scorer of the game.
In the first half of the game Lindbergh jumped out to a nice lead with Al-Maliki scoring his first two goals. The Flyers played great defense for the rest of the half, holding on to that lead.
The Flyers then battled a tough back and forth game of possession, eventually conceding a goal from a corner kick. However, the Flyers didn’t let this goal get to them as they continued to play solid defense the whole game. A couple of great saves from Carter Gruen (11), kept the team in the lead.
The Flyers held on to their lead, resulting in a great win over one of the best high schools in the state. With this victory under their belt, the Flyers hope to continue to win and grow as a team.
JV boys soccer will return on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, to play a tough Vianney soccer team. Coming off this great win, the Flyers should be well prepared for a matchup that will really test their skills.
“I expect this to be our toughest game of the year. Vianney always has a great team. They also beat Demset 2-1 so it should be a great battle between two great teams,” said Gruen.
