On Oct. 3, 2023, Lindbergh played Eureka in a bounce-back game. After losing to rivals Vianney 3-0 on Sept. 30, Lindbergh beat Eureka 3-2.
“It felt good to beat Eureka after a tough loss last game. We turned it around and I think this game is going to be a big up in our season after losing to Vianney,” senior forward Kellen Douglas said.
After a slightly delayed start, Lindbergh came out aggressive in the first half, owning the majority of possession and not letting Eureka have a step in the game. After continued play, Lindbergh got the opening goal by Luke Giesing on a perfectly placed shot, ending the half on a bright note. This gave the team a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
As the second half began, the Flyers came out hot, Tarik Kapetanovic scoring early on in the half.
“We had more passion this game than we did against Vianney. We all worked for each other and worked on and off the ball. Our tactical advantage was way better against Eureka than Vianney which gave us a big advantage in our previous game,” Kapetanovic said.
Lindbergh would soon let go of their two-goal lead due to a perfectly placed shot by the Eureka forward. While the Flyers were still winning, they weren’t playing their best soccer at a critical time. As a result, Eureka scored a long-distance free-kick to make the score 2-2. Soon after the second goal, senior center-back Dominic Shepard came out of the game with a minor injury.
“I was running at the kid to stop him from crossing the ball and then he kicked my foot when he kicked the ball,” Shepard said.
In the last 10 minutes, Giesing scored a perfectly placed header to give Lindbergh the lead again. The Flyers fought a whole 80 minutes but all their hard work paid off as they got their win against Eureka.
