Covid-19 cases have been rising throughout the Lindbergh School District, especially Lindbergh High School.

As of January 14th,  numbers at the high school rose a total of 96 positive Covid-19 cases with the entire district seeing a total of 296 positive student and staff cases. This surge is the result of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 impacting both the United States and the world. 

Earlier in the school year, the Lindbergh district made the decision to go to mask-optional after winter break, but due to high case counts, that decision was postponed. In order to go to mask-optional, the high school cannot exceed 1.5% of the school testing positive for Covid-19, and this includes staff, students, and administration. At the time of this story, the high school was well over that 1.5%.

According to Linda Huynh (LHS school nurse), “Looking at the number of cases that are positive right now, I’m predicting universal masking will be extended at LHS until the next board review date.”
The recent surge has administrators at both the high school and district levels on alert. They continue to monitor the case counts and continue to make adjustments as the case counts change each day.

 “With the recent surge of the Omicron variant, the district delayed the mask optional move until January 20th. Last week, Dr. Tony Lake pushed it back once more until February 3rd to give us additional time to get through this wave. If our numbers are below 38 on the 3rd, it is possible we could shift to a mask optional environment,” said Dr. Eric Cochran (LHS principal).
