Meadow Roy (11) is a student journalist at LHS with a passion for reading. Roy has been an avid reader since the seventh grade, her favorite genre of stories being flights of fantasy.
“I like a lot of fantasy and fiction… or Sci-Fi or supernatural,” Roy said. “I enjoyed reading all the Maze Runners. I also enjoyed reading the Percy Jackson series and the stuff that adds onto it.”
Although Roy enjoys reading these works of fiction, she’s not the most enthusiastic about starting stories in which she is unfamiliar.
“I don’t like to start books sometimes if I don’t know if I’m gonna like it.”
With that in mind, Roy began reading a series of novels at the beginning of the year she knew she would enjoy: the Harry Potter series.
“Since I enjoyed watching the movies, I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy reading the books,” Roy said. The Harry Potter stories share a great combination of adventure, magic and supernatural elements, all a perfect match for Roy. “I always like when I can find something I’ll enjoy.”
While Roy enjoys adventure in novels, she said she is also able to find adventure within Pilot. Being part of a class that produces and creates articles and stories for the school newspaper, Roy is right at home. While Roy may not do the most writing, she certainly has a place here.
“Last year I did a lot of infographics. I did a lot of InDesign, more than I did writing; and I really enjoyed making the infographics,” Roy said.
Roy finds that her sweet tooth for reading can be satisfied by the different works created by her classmates and colleagues.
“I guess I’m really actually interested in reading everyone else’s [stories], cause it’s always nice to see the final product and what everyone else has created and when the Pilot [is completed].”
