As fall comes into town, Lindbergh High School’s biannual Band Flea Market takes place on a Sunday in both September and May .The concept of band flea markets has become a well known tradition in communities, offering a combination of live music, connection and second-hand treasures. A cheery atmosphere is cultivated as band students perform live and run concessions while shoppers browse through a variety of donated goods.
Lindbergh’s flea market is known for its appeal and diversity. Offering clothes, handmade items, vintage goods, books and toys, the range of items available for sale is widespread and affordable. Shoppers come not only for the bargains, but also to support the local music programs. Annual attender, Senior Vivian Le, explained why she enjoys visiting the flea market.
“I really like meeting all of my friends during the flea market and seeing all the cool things we got! I also love finding random trinkets that give me nostalgia,” said Le.
Le also showcased some of her favorite items she found.
“It has got to be all of the clothes I’ve gotten. I love some of the designs on them–they’re so random sometimes,” Le said.
Setting up the flea market requires lots of planning and volunteer support. Parent Volunteer Nancy Dollenmeyer discussed why she volunteers for the event.
“I really enjoy volunteering with the other band parents and I love supporting the band. It makes a lot of money and it’s also just a great community event. It brings in lots of people, it’s a fun day,” Dollenmeyer said.
Dollenmeyer even noted her favorite parts about the event.
“It’s the community appeal, we get thousands of people across the area that come in and we get the chance to help different local venders sell their products, which is also great for the community,” said Dollenmeyer.
As the event came to an end, the atmosphere remained vibrant with satisfaction of another successful year. The dedication of the band students, parents and community members is what makes the flea market such a beloved event. With the funds raised, the band can continue to thrive while shoppers leave with their new treasures. Join them again in the spring for their next Band Flea Market.
