On Oct. 29, the Boys Lacrosse pre-season 7v7 league came to an end. This league is 7v7 and played on a shortened field and used as a pre-season league to prepare all the high school athletes for the regular lacrosse season in the spring. The senior class looks to cap off their career as a flyer with the help of younger players and the correct approach to the season.
“I think we did really well, a lot of young guys stepped up to the plate. We won a lot of games and are looking to do better,” said senior attacker Rome Crocker.
Even though this is a short season on a shortened field, it is just as important in hopes of preparing the players for the season in the spring, when they look to make a state run. This season helps players sharpen up their stick skills, get back into shape, and return to the level they were at over the spring and summer. Senior defensive-midfielder, Henry Yenzer, a valuable varsity player is looking forward to the spring season but did not have a lot of time to prepare for it over the summer so Yenzer used this 7v7 league to get back into the groove and get ready.
“This season is very beneficial for getting my body back into shape for the lacrosse season. It helps me get into the right frame of mind and gets me ready to play with all the guys again,” Yenzer said.
7v7 is very compact as it is on a shortened field as well which allows for many skills to develop especially for the younger guys. Junior defender, Brody Wharton sees this season with only advantages as it helps the younger players develop. On top of more work, the young players could be very valuable.
“If we get some of the younger guys to hit the wall and get better and more comfortable with passing and catching that will help a lot, for sure,” Wharton added.
Valuable 2-way senior midfielder, Zach Hnilo looks back on the season with only positive thoughts as it will help them get the rust off and get them closer as a group even before the spring season. This 7v7 league gets them back into the right mindset, and in shape physically, and helps them in preparation for a state-run and one final season for the 2025 class.
“I think it went really well, stamina and conditioning is an easy fix but overall I think it went very well. I think if we fix some minor details then we are in for a really good season,” said Hnilo.
While the spring is the last season for the seniors, they took this league very seriously in preparation for their last season. This helped the younger players to develop and get used to the physical and mental strain a season takes. The Flyers only saw positives in this pre-season league and took full advantage of it.
