The Lindbergh Flyers softball season has ended with an unfortunate loss against Oakville High School. The Flyers finished the season with a successful record of 18 wins and 10 losses, going 8-5 at home and 7-3 when playing on the road. Some of the Flyer’s significant wins came from the district’s first-round 9-1 win vs Kirkwood and an 18-4 win vs Webster Groves High School. Notable Senior stars Allie Waldron and Gabby McBride have broken many records throughout their four years of playing on the varsity team for the Flyers with the support of coach Darin Scott. Waldron led the team’s overall batting average with .536. Waldron broke the program home run record this year in the 2024 season against Parkway West High School, making her home run count 20.
“The whole time, I just tried to stay out of my head, and I didn’t even know I was gonna break it until after,” Waldron said.
McBride broke the strikeout record in one game. On Tuesday, October 1st, she pitched 19 out of 21 strikeouts against Webster Groves High School, breaking the school record for strikeouts per game.
“I honestly didn’t know what the exact record to break was, but I kept track of how many strikeouts I was having during the game because I noticed that it was a lot. On the bus, my coach said something, and the whole team congratulated me and celebrated,” McBride said.
Coach Scott has coached these two girls for the past four years and has seen their success firsthand.
“It’s been an unbelievable run for these two. It’s great to have them on the team, and they are the best pitcher-catcher combination we’ve ever had here at Lindbergh. They are just unbelievable athletes and even better people,” Coach Scott said.
Waldron and McBrdie have won Player of the Year awards and Pitcher of the Year awards. MJ Abercrombie, a teammate, has played with them for four years.
“It has been a great experience getting to play and get to know Allie and Gabby. I have admired Allie Waldron because of her dedication and passion for the sport,” MJ Ambercrombie said.
Good luck to all the Seniors and their future careers, and good luck to Allie Waldron as she takes her talent to Murry State University Softball.
